Most profitable content strategy (The Reverse Flow)
Content creation is a chaotic process and as a creator or an aspiring creator, you need some sort of order to this process.
You need a system that allows you to be consistent and certain of the process working to your advantage and towards your goal.
The Reverse Flow content strategy is something I apply to my personal brand and I have noticed it in the application by some of the most successful creators online.
Today I am breaking it down for you
If you are reading this, chances are
You are confused about what content to create, and what platforms to leverage.
You are confused about where to start
You are confused about the purpose of the content you create
You keep changing platforms and your content strategy
Eliminating your confusion is my primary goal today!
The strategy I am about to explain will give you a birds-eye view of the content creation process and will allow you to create content that brings the results you aim for.
Also, it’s going to blow your minds!
Before we dive deep
Please make a note of a few acronyms I will be using throughout this post
TOF - Top-of-the-funnel (Followers who are new and are watching your content for the first time)
MOF - Middle-of-the-funnel (Followers who are relatively old and have started liking you and your content)
BOF - Bottom-of-the-funnel (Followers who now trust you and are invested in your content and what you do as a creator)
The core idea is to always push people down the funnel but create content from the bottom-up approach.
Create long-form descriptive content pieces for the BOF audience (For example - this Newsletter and my YouTube videos) and repurpose for the TOF audience (For example my Reels and Tweets)
This saves a lot of time and gives you a clear understanding of what content to create at what stage of the user journey and how to turn them from mere followers to raving fans.
Your content must have a different goal at every stage of the content Funnel
Here is what content for different stages of the funnel looks like:
Top-of-the-funnel content - Reels on Instagram, Auto DMs on Twitter, and shorts on YouTube
GOAL - Spreading the word and getting the maximum reach possible
Middle of the funnel content - Carousel posts on Instagram, Twitter threads, articles on LinkedIn, etc
GOAL - Establishing authority and building trust
Bottom of the funnel content - Long-form YouTube videos, Newsletter, etc
GOAL - Turning followers into raving fans and paying customers
If you are just starting out and have never created content in your life you can ignore the MOF and BOF
Focus on TOF and initiate your journey as a creator - This is the easiest way to build your personal brand.
Once you start accumulating decent attention it is time you change your content strategy to a bottom-up approach.
As you grow, it is almost impossible to create content separately for every stage of the funnel without a team and even if you have a team it is probably not the best approach.
So you are left with two options:
Keep creating TOF content and rely on brand deals for monetization
Build a mature content strategy (Reverse Flow) and take control of monetization, while providing immense value to the world.
At this point, only serious folks are left!
The shortcut finding clowns have already left and that’s exactly when I give you the sauce haha
Here is the step-by-step process to build this content system from scratch
1. Hunt for ideas
Create a hunting folder where you keep all the ideas you encounter in your life
Find something good while scrolling Twitter, put it in the folder
Find something interesting while listening to the podcast, put it in the folder
Find something interesting while walking, put it in the folder
You got the idea!
When you encounter an idea that sparks your curiosity - Bookmark it, save it, and write it in notes - Keep it saved!
The best content is created when you shape and mold the big ideas with your expertise, journey, stories, and interests.
Do this every day and you will have more content ideas than you can execute!
2. Expand on the ideas
(Align them to the interest of your audience)
The next step is to write every day
Build a habit of writing every day at least for half an hour
Pick any idea from your hunting folder and expand on it
Write how this idea can be helpful to your audience
Try to fuse this idea with topics of your interest and what your audience likes
Tell your stories with these ideas
Braindump
Try to come up with a step-by-step process that is actionable - A framework that your audience can apply
This is truly powerful!
This newsletter is just my structured brain dump on the idea of creating content.
And I am sure this is helpful for you
3. Create BOF content
You have already done the hard part
Now just stitch the brain dump you did on that one idea, and package it!
Structure it in a way that excites your followers to consume it and have a positive impact on their lives
Start by writing Newsletter and recording long-form YouTube videos
At the start, you can decide what platforms you want to leverage and apply this process to just those platforms.
I personally like to choose medium (text or video) rather than choosing platforms
It is important that you don’t overload yourself.
You can always add new platforms as you get comfortable but the fundamentals are important to understand, so you can create with clarity at all times.
In an ideal scenario, this process will allow you to create content for every platform in every medium on the internet.
But understand your limitations and execute accordingly
4. Repurpose for MOF and TOF
At this point, you already have either a long-form YouTube video recorded, a Newsletter like the one you are reading, or both
Depending on what you have at your disposal, you can create unlimited content for every other social media platform
Here are the possibilities:
Ig reels from the YouTube video (TOF)
YT shorts from the same video (TOF)
Short Tweets from the catchy parts of the Newsletter (TOF)
Twitter threads from sections of the Newsletter (MOF)
Instagram Carousels from the threads you have written (MOF)
LinkedIn articles from the same Newsletter (MOF)
Medium articles (MOF)
I mean opportunities are endless!
5. Building a Reverse Flow
This is the last and most important piece of the puzzle!
You have created a bottom-up content creation process but you must not forget to always push people down to your BOF content.
The goal with all the repurposed content is to get people to watch your YouTube videos, read your Newsletter, and obviously provide a lot of Free value.
How do you do it?
PLUGS
Link in bio on Instagram
Put links to your Newsletter and YT videos in IG stories
Promote your Newsletter below your Tweets
You got the idea!
The goal is to push your audience to BOF
Ideally, don’t sell anything on TOF and MOF
The role of TOF and MOF is to gather attention and slowly funnel it to BOF
BOF is where you sell and make money!
This is how you create maximum content in the minimum time possible.
While making sure you are also building a business alongside your personal brand and not creating for its sake.
Create a holistic system for your content creation if you want to survive!
It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon.
That’s all for this one
