Is video editing saturated in 2024?

If you are a college student should you consider learning video editing or it’s too late?

We are covering everything you need to know about video editing as a skill in today’s publication

At the end, I will tell you some crucial things you should keep in mind to make money from video editing at the end of this video.

Let’s go!

MARKET DEMAND

Before discussing anything else let’s talk about some statistics and understand the market demand:

  1. Over 500 hours of videos are uploaded every minute on YouTube, which translates to about 720,000 hours of new content daily and the sweet part is that this number is only going up - more creators means more demand for video editing

  2. The global video editing software market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 12.5% from 2024 to 2032 because everyone now needs well-edited videos across all industries

  3. TikTok has made every platform promote video content because it turns out that’s what people prefer. It is the easiest format of content to consume and for those reasons, my videos on LinkedIn are randomly blowing up (I only have 3k followers on LinkedIn)

So now we know that there is demand for video editing and this demand is only going to go up in the future

BUT

With more demand, comes more competition because everyone wants to become an editor and wants to get the piece of this big pie and make money for themselves.

SATURATION VS COMPETITION

  • You might feel the market is saturated.

But here is the thing: Saturation is not the same as the competition.

Yes there are a lot of video editors in the market but the truth is that 80% of them suck

And I have experienced this firsthand - Out of all the portfolios I receive whenever I am hiring 80% of them are just garbage!

and so the real competition is only between the top 20%

Now you know where you stand and if you feel you are not in the top 20% the only thing stopping you from getting there is skill.

You can learn, and practice and if you do it consistently you will get to the top!

BUT

90% of people will optimize for money before skill and struggle to get clients.

Now let’s say you are really good, and you have proof of it. Still, you are unable to get clients or a job.

Let’s talk about 3 things that will help you stand out from your competition:
